Sterling Left Out Of Chelsea Squad Again Ahead Of Europa Play-Off

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sterling, 29, was also absent from Chelsea’s squad in their recent 2-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, August 18. His exclusion has raised questions about his future at the club, especially after his representatives called for “clarity” regarding his role.
Since his £50 million move from Manchester City to Chelsea in July 2022, Sterling has made 81 appearances for the West London club.
However, his recent omissions have sparked speculation about his standing under Maresca’s management.
In addition to Sterling, defenders Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo were also excluded from Chelsea’s squad for the Conference League match at Stamford Bridge.
This decision comes as Chelsea’s summer spending has reached around £185 million, adding 11 new signings and creating a squad of over 40 senior players.

After the defeat by City, Maresca expressed his wish to keep Sterling at Chelsea but acknowledged the difficulty of providing sufficient playing time for all the club’s players.
Chelsea’s first leg against Servette will take place at Stamford Bridge on Thursday at 8 p.m., with the second leg scheduled for August 29th in Switzerland.
