Steven Gerrard Becomes Favorite For Aston Villa Job
- Steven Gerrard has become the front-runner to be appointed as Aston Villa coach
- Villa chiefs reportedly prefer the Liverpool legend due to his impressive run at Rangers
Ekohotblog reports that former Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard is now the leading contender for appointment as the coach of Aston Villa.
Aston Villa relieved former manager, Dean Smith of his duties following their loss at Southampton on Friday night making it their fifth successive defeat in the Premier League.

That result leaves Villa just two points above the drop zone despite a large summer outlay on the likes of Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings which was made possible by Jack Grealish’s departure to Manchester City in a British-record £100m transfer.
Gerrard is under contract at Rangers until 2024, and though the Scottish champions would be reluctant to allow him to leave mid-season, they would be unable to stop him should Villa pay a compensation fee, believed to be around £2.5m.
Roberto Martinez, Paulo Fonseca, Kasper Hjulmand, Graham Potter and Ralf Rangnick are all believed to have been discussed by Villa chiefs, but multiple reports confirms that Gerrard is their first choice.
