We stole nine cars, sold seven – Transborder car thieves confess
EKO HOT BLOG reports that two alleged transborder auto thieves apprehended by police in Katsina State on Tuesday admitted to stealing nine cars from various states in Northwest Nigeria.
The suspects admitted to selling seven of the nine stolen automobiles in the past.
They were on their way to transfer two additional recently stolen automobiles from Kano to a customer in Niger Republic when they were apprehended by police at a repair business in Katsina.
The accused were paraded before newsmen at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Superintendent of Police, SP. Isah Gambo, on behalf of the Police Commissioner in the State, CP. Sanusi Buba.
The two suspects identified as Usman Sani 55, of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Kano State and Lukman Magaji 20, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano state, who were in possession of a light blue Toyota Camry, with registration number JJJ 340 EF and an ash colour, Honda CRV with registration number DKA 980 AH when they were arrested in Katsina, said they have been involved in transborder car theft for the past three years.
The 55-year-old suspect, Usman Sani, from Rijiyan Lemu in Kano State said: “I used to be a driver before venturing into stealing cars. I have been involved in car theft for the past three years now.
“So far, in our syndicate, we have stolen nine cars of which we have sold seven successfully. We were on our way to deliver two other stolen vehicles from Kano, a Honda CRV and a Toyota Camry, to a buyer in Niger Repblic, when we were arrested by the police at a mechanic workshop, where we stopped to work on the car. We sold the Honda CRV at N300,000 and the Toyota Camry at N250,000.”
Other items recovered from the suspect on the course of police investigation include: a master key, two knives, bunch of different motor vehicles keys, three (3) pliers, two screw drivers, one hammer, one hacksaw, and a bag containing electrical repairs tools.
