EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to local reports, the theft took place during a domestic league match between Sporting Lisbon and Vitoria Guimaraes on Saturday, though it was not officially reported to law enforcement until Sunday.

In a statement released by the police, it was revealed that several masked individuals gained unauthorized access by forcing open a gate in the stadium’s garage. The trophy, along with other UEFA equipment, was taken during the heist.

A police spokesperson confirmed to AFP that the stolen items, including the prestigious trophy, have been returned to UEFA. Thirteen suspects have so far been identified in connection with the theft, although officials have not disclosed further details about the recovery operation.
