Speaking at his Ila-Orangun residence during a visit by the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Babatola Ayodele, and other principal officers, Chief Akande called for an overhaul of Nigeria’s educational system to meet global standards.

“Universities should avoid producing graduates that cannot add value to the economy. If you want global competition, you can’t wait,” Akande said. He added, “Going to school is not work, but the beginning of learning how to work,” stressing the need for immediate reforms to enhance global competitiveness.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the EKSU alumni delegation commended the institution’s recent recognition as Nigeria’s best state university by Times Higher Education, attributing the accolade to its knowledgeable leadership.

Professor Ayodele described the visit as an opportunity to seek guidance from the elder statesman, reinforcing the importance of skill acquisition for graduates to thrive in a competitive world. He stated, “No student graduates from our university without acquiring relevant skills in one vocation or the other, preparing them for profitable engagements instead of relying solely on white-collar jobs.”
