Their noble mission: to deliberate upon the preservation and promotion of their cherished culture and to fortify unity among the Ijebu Obas residing in Lagos, acknowledging their historical roots in Ijebuland, Ogun State, before becoming part of Lagos.
The day commenced with a majestic entrance into the palace of the Awujale, set to the enchanting rhythm of traditional drumming and the harmonious melodies of age-old music.
The Ijebu Obas, adorned in their glorious royal attire, bedazzled with intricate beads and crowns, strode in graceful unison.
The atmosphere vibrated with the beat of talking drums, while the crowd, filled with joy, celebrated and cheered, rejoicing in the profound cultural heritage that bound them together. Their stately procession was a testament to the enduring spirit of the Ijebu community.
As the gathering continued, the palace was graced by the presence of esteemed royal figures and dignitaries from various corners.
The Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Adetona, extended his heartfelt appreciation for the visit of the Ijebu obas from Lagos State to his regal abode.
With wisdom and warmth, he addressed the assembly, emphasising the vital importance of unity among the Ijebu Obas. He fervently urged them to collaborate for the progress of their respective states and kingdoms, expressing his hope that such meetings would become a regular occurrence, strengthening the bonds of their community.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State graced the occasion with his presence and shared his thoughts with the gathering.
In his speech, he admonished the royal fathers to maintain their unity, underscoring the peril of artificial divisions that often sprout from the realm of politics.
Abiodun further encouraged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to preserve and promote their rich cultural heritage while working diligently to usher in development across their diverse kingdoms.
Following these insightful deliberations, a sumptuous reception awaited the attendees in a splendidly adorned hall within the Awujale palace.
Obas and other esteemed personalities came together to partake in a feast befitting the occasion. The hall radiated with happiness and jubilation as the unity of the Ijebu Obas found expression not only in their words but also in their shared moments of celebration.
