Two people were killed and one injured after an 18-year-old student carried out a knife attack at a school in eastern Slovakia.

Initially, local police reported that the suspect, a student at a gymnasium, was on the run and advised the public not to approach him. However, he was soon apprehended.

“We assure the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure safety,” the police stated.

The victims were identified as two fellow students and a teacher.

The incident occurred around 13:00 local time (12:00 GMT) in Spisska Stara Ves, a small town near the Polish border, with emergency medical teams quickly responding to the scene, according to broadcaster TA3.
