Eko Hot Blog reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a nationwide strike from next Wednesday.
The union announced the industrial action on Friday, following a meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja over the fuel subsidy removal and subsequent hike in the pump price of petrol.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the fuel shortages across the country is occasioned by President Bola Tinubu’s inaugural speech in which he declared that “fuel subsidy is gone”.
Speaking after the emergency meeting on Friday with National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja, NLC President Joe Ajaero said the government, particularly the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited had up until Wednesday next week to revert to the old price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise referred to as petrol.
Ajaero added that failure of the Federal Government to meet the ultimatum would attract an indefinite protest across the country.
The subsidy removal has caused a ripple effect on cost of transportation across the country as transport workers now buy petrol at a higher rate after queuing for long hours at filling stations.
