Sudan Crisis: Peter Obi Speaks On 4000 Trapped Nigerian Students

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Labour Party Presidential flagbearer in the just concluded election, Peter Obi has reacted to reports making the rounds of about 4,000 Nigerians trapped in war-torn Sudan.

Recalls that Nigerian students in the country have called on the federal government to evacuate them amid escalation of fighting in Khartoum, the capital, and other parts of the country.

The development had generated reactions as many faulted the government’s approach to the matter.

Meanwhile, the presidency said the situation had given the Nigerian government sleepless nights.

But in a statement on Sunday on his Official Twitter handle, Peter Obi said it is sad that the federal government has not evacuated Nigerians from the region.

He called on the federal government to expedite all efforts to rescue and evacuate Nigerians in Sudan.

“I’m sad and concerned by the reports that Nigerians trapped in Sudan have not been evacuated. While we understand the extreme challenges in Sudan, we deeply implore the Federal Government of Nigeria to expedite all efforts to rescue about 4000 Nigerians, mostly students.

“Since it is the statutory responsibility of FGN to protect Nigerians at home in Nigeria and abroad, we must attend to such issues with more deserving proactiveness and commitment as the life of every Nigerian is sacred and important,” he posted.
