EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigerian evacuee, Hamid Abdulmalik, has been criticized by Nigerians on social media for complaining about the living conditions of the federal government’s lodging for evacuees from Sudan.

In a video posted on Twitter on Tuesday, Abdulmalik lambasted the government for lodging him and others in a building with poor toilet facilities.

Abdulmalik, who was evacuated from Sudan due to the ongoing war in the country, expressed his disappointment in the government’s failure to provide adequate living conditions for the evacuees.

He said, “They lie to you and tell you that they are paying us money and everything. This is where we are going to be staying for only God knows how long. Let me give you a tour of the toilet. You need to see how sanitary the toilet is. N1.2 million for all this. Yes, this is the toilet. Can you see the toilet? This is where we will be staying for only God knows how long we will stay here. And, so this is like the vicinity of the toilet.”

Abdulmalik’s tweet garnered backlash from Nigerians on social media, who chided him for complaining instead of being appreciative of the government’s effort to evacuate him from Sudan. Many social media users stated that the government was doing the best they could under the circumstances, and that Abdulmalik’s complaint was unnecessary.

In response to the backlash, Abdulmalik tweeted, “This is our toilet, 1.2 million dollar extraction plan. It is not really about the toilet, but the lies being told and the money they are trying to steal at the expense of our trauma.”

The federal government of Nigeria had earlier announced that it was planning to evacuate Nigerian citizens from Sudan due to the ongoing war in the country.

The evacuation was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force and other government agencies.

Mixed reactions among internet users and the social media world followed the video with some criticizing complaints made by the Nigerian evacuee in Sudan. Some criticized the evacuee for expecting luxurious accommodations during a war, while others sympathized with the difficult situation.

One netizen pointed out that the $1.2 million expenditure was only for logistics and that officials could have found alternatives for the delay at the Egypt border. Another questioned the evacuee’s actions, asking if they would be able to make a video in a real war situation.

One netizen reacted by saying that the evacuee wanted to be put in a 5-star hotel because they occupy the office of the citizen, which is the highest office in the country. Another urged the evacuee to thank the Nigerian government for working hard to get them home safely from a war zone.

However, some netizens were more sympathetic to the evacuee’s situation. One cautioned the evacuee to be calm and understand that this is a very peculiar situation, and that the most important thing is that they are not in the war zone.
