Sunday Igboho: Yoruba Monarchs Reveal Next Move

  • The Beninese court adjourned Sunday Igboho’s case till Monday (today) after his five lawyers failed to convince the prosecutor that he had no case to answer.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Yoruba monarchs who met in the Benin Republic on Sunday over the arrest and detention of the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, have resolved to write the President of the country, Patrice Talon.

This was disclosed by the monarchs after a meeting at the Ajohoun Palace in Adjohoun, the Benin Republic on Sunday.

EKO HOT BLOG had earlier reported that the traditional rulers met to discuss ways of ensuring that Sunday Igboho is released by Beninese authorities.

The popular Yoruba rights activist, who is currently in the custody of security operatives in Cotonou following his arrest on Monday alongside his German wife, will be in court in Benin on Monday (today) for a hearing on his extradition.

The Beninese authorities, however, released Ropo, the wife of the Yoruba Nation agitator, who was arrested with the 48-year-old activist on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.

However, according to BBC News Yoruba, the traditional rulers disclosed at the end of the meeting that they were working towards finding a lasting solution to Sunday Igboho’s issues with the Beninese authorities.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the monarchs agreed that a letter should be written to the President of the Benin Republic, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Interior, and the Head of the country’s parliament.
