Super Eagles Begin 2021 AFCON Qualifier With 2-1 Victory Over Benin

The Super Eagles of Nigeria began its 2021 African Cup of Nations AFCON qualification with a 2-1 victory over Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Wednesday.

The Squirrel of Benin came into the match with high morale as they took an early lead five minutes to the beginning of the match.

In-form Lille of France striker, Victor Osimhen level the score for the Super Eagles few minutes to the end of first forty-five minutes.

A brilliant strike from Samuel Kalu who just returned to the first eleven of the team gave Gernot Rohr’s men all needed three-point as they go top of Group L.

The Super Eagles will jet out of the country to play their second match of the qualification series against South African team, Lesotho.

The team is yet to lose a match after they suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Algerians during the 2019 AFCON semi-final match in Egypt.

The Nigerian held South American football giant Brazil to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly match played Singapore last month.
