EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Supreme Court of Nigeria of obstructing justice for its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In October 2022, the Abuja Appeal Court discharged and acquitted Kanu of all charges brought against him by the Federal Government, and barred the government from prosecuting him in any Nigerian court.
Similarly, the Umuahia High Court ordered the Nigerian government to return Kanu to Kenya, where he was allegedly abducted, tortured, and unlawfully extradited to Nigeria. However, Kanu remains in detention.
IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, alleged that the Nigerian government filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the rulings of the lower courts. He further lamented that the apex court was obstructing justice for the IPOB leader by refusing to fix a date to hear the appeal.
In a statement, Powerful said: “One would have expected the Supreme Court of Nigeria, being a constitutional Court to throw out such erroneous appeal by the lawless Federal Government of Nigeria for their disobedience to the Appeal Court Orders or expedite action on the case bordering on International crime and Human Right abuse. Instead, they deliberately decided not to fix a date to hear the appeal before them.”
He further accused the Supreme Court Justices of colluding with the Nigerian government to delay and deny Kanu justice. According to Powerful, Kanu did not commit any prosecutable crime in Nigeria or anywhere internationally, yet he has been held in solitary confinement by the Department of State Services (DSS) for over 18 months.
IPOB and Biafrans perceive the Supreme Court Justices as trading justice for obedience to the executive arm of the government, he added.
The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu has sparked widespread protests and calls for his release from both IPOB members and other human rights groups.
