Reports indicate that Mr. Oche was ambushed and shot dead while returning from his farm with five others, who managed to escape with serious injuries.
A friend of the deceased, speaking anonymously, revealed that the group had gone to their farm in Igumale on Monday. While on their way back around 4:30 p.m., they encountered an ambush set by the armed herdsmen.
“There were six of them returning from the farm on two motorbikes when they were ambushed by armed herdsmen in Ado LGA. The attackers flagged them down and immediately shot the Chairman, who was the first to be confronted. He died on the spot,” the source recounted.

The remaining five individuals, realising they were under attack, attempted to flee. Though they sustained serious injuries, they eventually managed to escape, leaving their motorbikes behind.
Upon hearing about the attack, local youths mobilized and rushed to the scene, but the assailants had already fled, leaving behind the body of the slain Chairman, who is survived by a wife and two children.
His body was later recovered, and arrangements are being made for his burial on Thursday. The injured survivors are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Benue State Labour Party Publicity Secretary, Tersoo Orbunde, stated that the body had been recovered and preparations for the burial were underway.
“He was the Ward Chairman from Igumale, Sunday Oche. He was attacked and killed while returning from his cassava farm. The corpse has been brought back. Our people are consoling the family, and we’re awaiting arrangements for his burial to see how we can assist. The matter has also been reported to the police for necessary action,” Orbunde said.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, stated that she had not yet received information about the incident.
