Suspected Herdsmen Slaughter 8 People In Benue

This comes just 48 hours after alleged Fulani militia killed over five people and injured many more in the same local government’s Ahentse, Nzorov council district.
The most recent attack took place in the early hours of Thursday, March 10, in Iye village, Uvir council ward, along Daudu-Gbajimba route and branch Udei, around Yelwata axis.
The terrorists who attacked the communities are thought to have entered into Benue from Nasarawa state.
According to eyewitness accounts, the herders arrived on motorcycles and without a herd of cattle, despite having previously threatened the Tse Torkula community to leave the area or face terrible repercussions.
According to reports, the attackers fired scattered shots into the air before storming into the homes of their victims, who were already fast sleeping.
Col. Paul Hemba retd, the governor’s security adviser, confirmed the attacks and stated eight persons were killed.
“Six people were killed in Iye village along Daudu/Gbamjinba road. It happened in the early hours of this morning (Thursday) at branch Udeyen, close to the water in Yelwata. Two other people were also killed,” he stated.
Also confirming the attacks, the chairman of Guma local government, Caleb Aba, said that six people were killed.
“Four people were killed at Iye in Uvir council ward and two more killed around Yelwata axis. One cannot explain the reasons for this renewed killings because there was no provocation at all. The herders just came, attacked the people and ran back into Nasarawa. These latest attacks happened at the early hours of today, between 3 and 4 am,” the council boss said.
The chairman appealed to the federal government and security agencies to boost surveillance after claiming that military authorities had been informed of the attacks and had stationed troops there.
He also asked people to be more vigilant in terms of security.
