EKO HOT BLOG reports that Eyewitness accounts, including that of a military officer who spoke anonymously to AIT, indicated that the blast originated from a rubber container allegedly held by a man believed to be a suicide bomber. The man died on the spot due to the explosion.
The incident, which occurred close to a heavily guarded military installation, sparked panic among nearby residents and passersby. Security forces swiftly cordoned off the area.
While initial reports suggested a suicide bombing, military officials at the scene dismissed the likelihood of a traditional IED, instead pointing to a possible phone-triggered explosion. The precise cause, however, remains under investigation.
A combined emergency and security team—comprising operatives from the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)—were quickly deployed to manage the situation and commence a thorough probe.
In a bid to maintain security and control information flow, media personnel were barred from taking photographs or videos of the blast site, a move that further fueled public curiosity and speculation.
Meanwhile, another security scare rocked the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja’s largest suburban district, where a group of armed kidnappers stormed the Grow Homes Estate in the early hours of Monday, reportedly between 12:00 AM and 1:30 AM.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen held residents hostage for over an hour and abducted at least two individuals—a man and a woman. By morning, the woman was mysteriously found within the estate, having been released by her abductors under unclear circumstances.

Both incidents have heightened security concerns across the Federal Capital Territory, with residents calling for stronger surveillance and proactive government action.
