T.J. Abass Encourages Epe Youths to Join Nigerian Military at Sensitization Event

Otunba T.J. Abass, the Publisher of EKO HOT BLOG, on Friday urged young people in Epe Division to consider joining the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing it as a way to serve their country and protect their community.

Otunba Abass made this plea at a special event organized by the Office of Hon. Wale Raji, Member of the House of Representatives (MHR) for Epe Federal Constituency, and EKO HOT BLOG.

The event, held at the Epe Local Government Secretariat, was an avenue to encourage Epe’s youth to see military service as a career full of opportunities, discipline, and honor.

Represented by Mr. Damilare Abass, Otunba Abass emphasized the importance of Epe indigenes stepping forward to play their part in national security, noting that many young people overlook the military as a career option.

According to him, Lagos State has seen a drop in the number of people joining the Armed Forces, which is a serious concern.

He explained that Lagos did not meet its recruitment target in recent years, and it’s important for communities like Epe to help reverse the trend.

In his words, “What does it mean if our voices are missing in the system meant to protect us?”

“Lagos didn’t even fill the quota in the last Armed Forces recruitment.

“This growing trend has set off alarm bells for stakeholders in Lagos State, including Epe leaders, who are committed to setting the scale straight.

“Lagos’ underrepresentation in the Nigerian Armed Forces is beyond statistics; it is a missed beat in Lagos’ rhythm on the national stage, especially as non-indigenes increasingly occupy positions that should rightfully go to our local sons and daughters.

“We have, therefore, decided to address this issue headlong, to x-ray the roots of our youths’ hesitations in taking up the arms and playing their roles in safeguarding our collective future; we are mobilizing Lagosians to step boldly into their rightful place in the Nigerian Armed Forces, and Epe will not fail to lead the charge.

“Today’s event is particularly significant, as it marks the start of a movement that will help the Epe indigenes of Lagos State claim their place in the defence of our nation.”

Otunba Abass further commended Hon. Wale Raji for his hard work in improving the Epe Federal Constituency and for organizing the event, which aims to give young people a better understanding of the military as a career.

During the event, Lt. Col. C.U. Okereke from the Nigerian Army Cantonment in Epe and HRM Oba Dr. Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, also spoke about the benefits of joining the military and the need for more Lagosians to serve their country.

T.J. Abass ended his speech with a reminder from Thomas Jefferson: “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”

He encouraged the youth of Epe to see military service as a chance to protect their future and make their community proud.
