Nottingham Forest’s remarkable season continued with a 3-0 win at Wolves on Monday, marking a triumphant return to Molineux for manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
England’s Morgan Gibbs-White and the in-form Chris Wood both scored before halftime, putting Forest just six points behind leaders Liverpool, whom they will face in their next Premier League match.
Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the win with a stoppage-time goal.

The defeat leaves Wolves outside the relegation zone only by goal difference, suffering their first loss under new boss Vitor Pereira.

Even if a surprise title challenge is beyond Espirito Santo’s men, they have built a solid cushion in the race for Champions League qualification next season. They are five points ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle and six clear of struggling champions Manchester City in sixth.
A top-four finish would secure a return to Europe’s top competition for the first time in 45 years for the two-time European champions, though fifth place might suffice depending on how English clubs fare in European competitions.
Gibbs-White enjoyed a memorable return to Wolves, where he began his career. In front of new England manager Thomas Tuchel, the midfielder enhanced his chances of further international call-ups with a composed finish from Antony Elanga’s pass.
Forest’s unexpected rise from narrowly escaping relegation last season to Champions League contenders has been built on a solid defence and Wood’s impressive form. The New Zealand striker turned in Callum Hudson-Odoi’s low cross to score his 12th goal of the season, doubling the visitors’ lead just before the break.
Wolves pushed for a comeback after halftime but lacked bite without their key player, Matheus Cunha, who was suspended. Forest goalkeeper Mats Sels made a brilliant save to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen and preserve his ninth clean sheet of the season, and fourth consecutive shutout.
