EKO HOT BLOG reports that former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has suggested that the Blues should re-sign Tammy Abraham, who they sold to Italian side Roma last year.
Sutton believes that the England international could be the solution to Chelsea’s problems in front of goal and has recommended that the club make a £68 million bid for him this summer.
Chelsea allowed Abraham to leave in order to fund their record-breaking £97.5m deal for Romelu Lukaku, who returned to Stamford Bridge after a spell at Inter Milan. However, Lukaku has struggled to make an impact in his first season back at the club and was recently sent back on loan to Inter Milan.
Chelsea is now in the market for a new striker and has been linked with a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. However, Sutton feels that Abraham would be a better fit for the Blues and has backed the club to make a move for him this summer.
“Tammy Abraham is an out-and-out No.9 and Chelsea decided to let him go,” Sutton told Betting Sites. “That was a bit of a strange one. Buying Tammy back is one of those that I could see happening. I think he’s done pretty well at Roma. So I actually think £68m would be a smart piece of business to bring Tammy Abraham back to Chelsea.”
Abraham enjoyed a successful debut campaign in Italy, scoring 27 goals for Roma. However, the striker has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with reports suggesting that Roma may be willing to cash in on him for the right price.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will follow Sutton’s advice and make a move for Abraham, or whether they will continue to pursue other targets in the transfer market.
