Tank Farm Owners Get Ultimatum As Lagos Govt Goes Hard On Operators

Lagos State Government has read the riot act to operators of  Tank Farm in the state.

This is coming as the state seeks to regulate the activities of the operators.

To this end, the state government has given the operators one week to commence regularizing their facilities by filling the application for planning permit.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako, gave the ultimatum at a meeting with the operators in Alausa, Ikeja.

He said only 8 out of the 41 Tank Farms in Lagos had permits authorising their establishments.

The official noted that most operate illegally and in variance with Section 27 of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) and Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) regulations 2019.

He emphasized that any Tank Farm that failed to regularize its facility by next week would face serious sanctions.

“Considering the importance of the activities of the Tank Farms to the economy of the country, it is pertinent that they embrace best practices and operate in the most friendly manner with the host communities” he stated.

Salako complained that the attitude of some operators caused problems including pipeline vandalism, environmental degradation, fire outbreak, traffic congestion and destruction of public infrastructure.

He told them to provide holding bays, traffic personnel and maintenance of buffer zone of 250m to 500m between the Tank Farm and the community.

The commissioner announced that government had approved the preparation of Action Area Plan for Ijegun Egba to address planning issues the operators raised.
