British-American influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have arrived in the United States after Romanian prosecutors lifted their two-year travel ban.
The brothers, facing trial in Romania on charges including human trafficking and rape, departed Bucharest on a private jet early Thursday, landing in Florida hours later.
Andrew Tate, 38, and Tristan Tate, 36, have strongly denied the allegations against them. Speaking to reporters upon arrival, Andrew described himself and his brother as “misunderstood,” emphasising that they have “never been convicted of any crime.”

Romanian prosecutors clarified that the case against the Tate brothers remains active and that they are still “under judicial control,” requiring them to report to authorities and return to Romania. Despite this, their departure has sparked concerns that the Trump administration may have exerted political pressure on Romanian officials—an allegation President Donald Trump denied.
“I know nothing about that. I don’t know, you’re saying he’s on a plane right now?” Trump responded when asked about their release.
Beyond Romania, the brothers face legal battles in multiple countries. In the US, they are being sued by a woman who alleges they coerced her into sex work and later defamed her for testifying against them. In the UK, they also face separate charges of rape and human trafficking.

Joseph McBride, the Tate brothers’ lawyer, stated they will return to Romania at the end of March for legal proceedings before heading back to the US. He added that the brothers feel “secure in America for several reasons, the primary one being that Donald Trump is the president.”
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who was present at the White House when Trump was questioned about the Tates, stressed the seriousness of human trafficking. “There’s an English element here, so obviously it’s important justice is done, and human trafficking is, to my mind, a security risk,” he said.
The Tate brothers declined to answer questions about their release or whether Trump played a role in their return to the US.
