EKO HOT BLOG recalls that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State had said the state cannot pay the minimum salary if the tax reform bills are passed adding that it will drag the northern part of the country backwards.
The bills, transmitted to the National Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in September, have faced stiff opposition, especially from the north, with stakeholders calling for its withdrawal.
Also, the Northern governors, traditional rulers, and Northern Elders Forum had rejected the proposed bills, saying they were not in the interest of the nation but Shehu Sani on Saturday on his verified Facebook page, criticised those against the Tax Reform bill says
“We cannot pay salaries” is not a statement in defence of the North. It is a statement that reveals how the North is dependent on other regions.
“If not being able to pay salaries will reconfigure the region to look inward and depend on itself, let it be. Dignity is worthier than money, ” he said.
