The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has provided an explanation for Tuesday’s national grid collapse, marking the 10th incident this year, which led to widespread power outages across the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that the collapse occurred at 1:52 pm, attributing it to multiple line and generator trips that destabilized the grid. Mbah noted that, while a significant portion of the grid was impacted, certain areas remained unaffected.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Mbah assured Nigerians that TCN engineers had promptly begun efforts to restore power to affected regions. By 2:49 pm, bulk power was successfully restored to Abuja, with gradual restoration efforts ongoing across other areas.

“TCN states that the national grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 1:52 pm today, 5th November 2024,” Mbah said.

“This followed a series of line and generator trippings, which caused instability and a partial disturbance in the system. Data from the National Control Centre (NCC) indicated that some parts of the grid remained unaffected.”
