EKO HOT BLOG reports that no fewer than twenty people reportedly died in Kano State last night after a late-night fire caught up with a residential apartment in Gandun Albasa-Bala Barodo in the Kano municipal.
A 35-year-old mother and her three-year-old baby got burnt in the inferno as they were deeply asleep when the fire started.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incidents through its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
He disclosed that the agency received a distress call from one Ibrahim Ashiru who reported that a five-room bungalow was completely razed.
Abdullahi explained further that the victims were rescued unconscious and handed over to Inspector Shehu Lawan of Kwali Police Station.
However, according to him, Doctors on duty at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital confirmed the victims dead upon arrival.
Abdullahi decried rising cases of fire disasters as over twenty people were burnt beyond recognition in a late-night fire on Thursday at Sheka Karshen Kwalta.
He added that twenty sheep and eight-grain silos were also burnt to ashes in Kunchi Local Government Area of the State.
Meanwhile, in related development, some victims of a cylinder chemical explosion which occurred on Friday in the Sharada Industrial Quarters area of Kano State have been taken to the hospital.
It was gathered that the victims, numbering over 200 inhaled dangerous chemicals from a dismantled cylinder and had to be rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Sharada Industrial Hospital and Ja’en Hospital in Kano for treatment.
Some of them were said to have suffocated and gone unconscious after inhaling the chemical which was released into the atmosphere based on the activities of metal scrappers.
The development was confirmed by the coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Kano State, Nuradeen Abdullahi.
He explained that the incident occurred around 4 pm.
“The cylinder chemical explosion occurred on Friday at about 4:00 p.m., at Sharada Industrial Area.
