Teenager Killed By Stray Bullet From Customs In Ogun
Customs officials have killed a teenager while raiding locked-up shops in the Yewa-North in search of suspected smuggled rice and other contraband goods.
Several men of the customs reportedly came to the Idiroko area and broke into many shops, making some traders to scamper for safety. The men were alleged to have taken away many bags of rice, sugar among others.
It was further learnt that while the raid lasted, the operatives shot repeatedly into the air during which a stray bullet hit the boy on the head.
An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity said the victim, identified only as Rilwan, a pupil at the Area Community High School, Owode, died in a pool of his blood after the bullet hit him.
The eyewitness said “The boy was killed this morning (Friday) at Owode Idiroko by customs men. The boy’s name is Rilwan, a student at the Area Community High School, Owode.
“He was 17 years old. The customs men broke into shops and parked away bags of sugar and rice. They shot into the air to scare people away people and in the process, a stray bullet hit the boy in the head.’’
Reacting, the Public Relations Officer, Customs Area Controller, Ogun I Command, Abdullahi Maiwada, confirmed the incident.
Maiwada in a statement said the incident involved men of the NCS Ogun I Command and some suspected Eiye cult members, alleging that the victim was a cultist.
