EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Minister of Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has denied allegations that he instructed telecom companies to tamper with networks amid the nationwide protests that began on Thursday.
Nigerians using MTN, Airtel, and other networks have experienced difficulties accessing the internet due to unusually slow browsing speeds.
This has led to accusations that the network issues might be connected to efforts by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to frustrate the demonstrations.
However, during an appearance on Channels TV, Tijani clarified, “There’s no instruction to tamper with (phone) networks.”
Earlier, Tijani condemned the looting of the National Communication Commission (NCC) building in Kano State, calling it a setback to the federal government’s efforts to encourage youth employment through technology.
In related news, the Inspector General of Police issued a fresh order following the protests, noting that a police officer was killed and others injured during the demonstrations.
Meanwhile, that the police boss disclosed this during a press conference held in Abuja following the supposed peaceful protest that turned violent in some locations across the country on Thursday.
Egbetokun further disclosed that some of his officers sustained injuries from individuals posing as protesters.
The police chief expressed sorrow over the destruction of several police stations across the country by violent rioters.
He emphasized that the incidents witnessed in major cities on Thursday were characterized by “mass uprising and looting” rather than peaceful protests.
