Tell Nigerians What Happened To Their $1bn- Fayose To Buhari

Former governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose has challenged the President Muhammadu Buhari government to explain to Nigerians why the Nigerian Army is lacking adequate ammunitions to combat insurgency even after due funds has been appropriated for the procurement of weapons for Nigerian soldiers.

Fayose, a fierce critic of the APC government, stated this in a series of tweets from his verified Twitter handle on Friday, December 4th, 2020.

The former governor recalled that the Federal government had in 2017 withdrawn $1bn from Nigeria’s excess crude oil account purportedly for the purpose of procuring weapons to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’s Northeast.

According to Fayose, 30 months after the withdrawal of the funds, Nigerian soldiers have continued to complain of paucity of weapons to fight insecurity in the country.

“When in December 2017, FG took $1bn from the Excess Crude Account purportedly to buy arms to fight Boko Haram, I did say then that the money was to fund the 2019 Reelection of @OfficialAPCNg candidates. Not many people suspected” Fayose said in a tweet.

The highly controversial Fayose also noted that more killings and kidnappings have continued to plague the country despite the appropriation of adequate funds to tackle insecurity in the country and called for the Presidency to explain to Nigerians what happened to their $1bn.

As observed by Eko Hot Blog, Fayose’s recent comment is not unconnected to recent waves of terrorist attacks in the country, particularly the slaughter of about 43 farmers in Zabarmari, Borno State.

Consequently, the Nigerian Army has continued to lament lack of weapons as the primary reason it has been unable to squarely tackle the Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria’s Northeast.
