Eko Hot Blog reports that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has denied reports that train coaches belonging to the agency were subjects of a theft attempt at the Maiduguri Railway Terminus in Borno State.
In a post on X on Saturday, the NRC said the reports were untrue.
NTA had reported that the police foiled the attempt to steal the train coaches after some “good samaritans” tipped them off.
“Suspected theft of train coaches of the Nigerian Railway Corporation foiled at Maiduguri Railway Terminus following a tip-off of good samaritans, suspects apprehended by the police,” the broadcaster wrote on X.
However, the NRC labelled the story as “untrue” without clarifying the situation.
As of the time of filing this report, it was not immediately clear why the train coaches were on trucks.
While the NRC denied there was a theft attempt, it did not reveal what caused the coaches to be placed on the trucks.
The confusion has sparked reactions from X users who wondered what the true situation of things with the train coaches is.
There had been allegations that the theft attempt was an inside job.
