Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been announced as the new Alaafin of Oyo. The Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, made this known in an official statement.
According to Oyelade, Prince Akeem was selected after extensive consultations and traditional divinations. His appointment was recommended by the Oyomesi (Oyo kingmakers) and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.

Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade comes from the royal Owoade-Agunloye family in Oyo. He is one of the surviving children of Pa Rasaki Ibiyosi Owoade.

He attended Baptist High School in Saki, Ibadan, Oyo State. He obtained a National Diploma (ND) from The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. Later, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sunderland and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northumbria University, both in the UK.
3. Professional Experience
Prince Akeem started his career as a teller with Oceanic Bank International Plc. in Warri between 2003 and 2004. He later worked as a Planning Engineer at Oil Reach Company in Glasgow, UK. Currently, he is a Project Coordinator with Manitoba Hydro in Canada.
4. Philanthropy
The new Alaafin is known for his charitable contributions. He has supported various educational projects, funded community development initiatives, and provided relief during crises.

Prince Akeem succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who passed away on April 22, 2022.
