Tension In Ogun As Gunmen Kidnap High Chief
There was palpable apprehension among residents of Ijebu North Local Government area in Ogun state after unknown gunmen attacked it and kidnapped the Olori-Ilu of Imope Ijebu, Chief Kolawole Omotayo.
Ekohotblog gathered Chief Omotayo was reportedly kidnapped at noon on Saturday, along Oke Eri-Imope road, while driving down from Ijebu-Ode, where he had gone to buy something.
DAILY POST reports that an associate of the kidnapped community leader disclosed that the assailants shot at the tyres of his vehicle, a Forerunner registered as WJ9, to deflate them and stop him in his tracks.
The source the bullets also pierced the engine, “giving the kidnappers an opportunity to pull him out of the car and drag him into the bush.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, also confirmed the incident but said details of the attack and kidnap are still sketchy.
He, however, allayed the fears of the public as he maintained that the security outfit has the situation under control.
Chief Kolawole Omotayo is the President of Ijebu Igbo Club and a member of Ijebu-Ode Club.
In recent months, Ogun State communities has become the beehive of all manner of criminal activities and attacks, as kidnapping and killings of the residents by gunmen, believed to be killer Fulani herdsmen, become a daily occurrence
Recall that two female students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ayetoro campus, were abducted by unknown gunmen last Sunday.
The two students were released on Tuesday but their abductors are yet to be arrested.
