The residents of Ọbanla area of Akure, Ondo state capital were thrown into trepidation as violence broke out between supporters Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Eyitayo Jegede, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A yet-to-be-identified man was killed in the Saturday melee that also left several persons injured and vehicles damaged.
An eyewitness said the social and economic activities of the area were grounded to a halt for several hours due to the clash.
Both PDP and APC have bickered over who was responsible for the attack.
The incident comes barely two weeks after five people were injured in a shootout between supporters of both parties at Oba-Akoko in Akoko south-west local government area of the state.
The injured supporters sustained varying degrees of injuries, while vehicles were vandalised during the confrontation.
