Tension In Ondo Over Alleged Helicopter Claiming Two Lives

Tension has erupted in arimogija in ose local government area of Ondo state following the brutal killing of a farmer and his son by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The victims, Mr Oguchu Jacob and his son, Adura were killed on Tuesday on their farmland around 12 pm noon, while another son of the farmer identified as Eneku was seriously wounded by bullets fire dropped by an alleged helicopter and was in critical conditions in the hospital.

Wife of the deceased, Joy who spoke to journalists on Friday morning confirmed the incident, adding that the case had been reported to the police.

“The killing of my husband and my son has caused violence in this village and people are now demanding for government intervention over incessant attacks on them by herdsmen,” she said.

The incident had forced many residents who are mainly farmers to abandon their homes over fear of renewed attacks.

“We were inside when we heard shouts that Fulani herdsmen had killed a man and his son on their farmland while working. This is not the first time they will be doing this evil to us. There was a time they attacked a farmer and buried him in a shallow grave” said one of the residents who pleaded anonymity.

The people alleged that the herdsmen would come with their cattle and destroy their farmland and if they challenge them, they would become aggressive and try to kill the person.

Another witness account said that they saw a helicopter dropping weapons in the forest for Fulani herdsmen.

“What I am telling you is the fact and if you some of the weapons in the hands of these herdsmen, you will understand this.”

The Ondo state police public relations I, Tee Leo Ikoro who confirmed the incident denied that those who perpetrated the attack were Fulani herdsmen.

He said, “The police were already on the trail of the gunmen and the commissioner of police had directed our men in operation rapid response to ensure they arrest those behind the act.”

The Senior Special Assistant to governor Rotimi Akeredolu on security matter, Jimoh Dojumo had led the government delegation to the community to commiserate with the people over their loss.
