Tensions Escalate As APC Protest Against Obaseki’s Presence In INEC Office

Early Sunday morning, tensions intensified as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Dennis Idahosa, the running mate of gubernatorial candidate Monday Okpebholo, organized a protest demanding the removal of Governor Godwin Obaseki from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) premises.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the protest began around 3:30 a.m., with Idahosa vocally condemning Obaseki’s presence at the INEC office. He declared, “Obaseki must come out. He is not supposed to be here. He is not an INEC staff. Nigeria Police should not compromise.”

The demonstrators voiced their belief that the governor should not have been on-site during the election result collation process. Despite their passionate demands for Obaseki to leave, the protesters encountered significant resistance as they attempted to access the INEC premises. Security personnel effectively barricaded the entrance, preventing the crowd from forcing their way inside.

The situation escalated further with the arrival of Frank Mba, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) responsible for overseeing the election. Mba quickly approached the area where Obaseki was seated, signaling an effort to address the rising unrest.

Earlier reports indicated that Obaseki had been escorted from the premises by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
