  • Adeyinka’s successes and accomplishments in those sixty years of her existence are as intimidating as they are fascinating.

When Nigeria’s story is told, the chroniclers of our checkered history must allot a decent time to highlight the tremendous exploits of Nigerians in foreign lands to not just their host country but to the human race as a whole.

Nigeria diasporas, through their sheer brilliance and dedication and commendable services to their host countries, have not only made Nigeria visible on the global map but also changed the world perception about Nigeria, cleaning an image that’s been tainted by a handful of unscrupulous compatriots.

From sports to science to the economics to technology to academia, Nigeria has produced world beaters in every human endeavour; these excellent citizens have not only deployed their enviable talents and intelligence to shape the world we live in but have also made themselves an integral part of the growth and development of their host country, they are almost indispensable in the grand scheme of thing. Never mind that such an admirable feat might not have been achieved had they stayed back in their home country.

That’s the fate of a country that possesses splendid talents and prolific minds in quantum but lacks the decency to nurture them and deftly harness their potential to better the country.

Akinwunmi Adesina, Okonjo Iweala, Muhammad Aminat, Philip Emeagwali, and many other diasporans have done remarkably well in waving the nation’s flag to bemused world citizens on the international stage.

Not only have diaspora Nigerians shouldered the public relations burden of the nation, but they have also contributed to the steadying of this wobbling ship that’s Nigeria through remittances and welfare packages for family members back home.
