Eko Hot Blog reports that President Bola Tinubu on Thursday night expressed excitement to see former governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Ambode was at the Lagos House, Marina, to honour an invitation to the reception held in honour of the president.
Tinubu had on Tuesday returned to Lagos after a seven-day trip abroad.
Ambode’s presence at the reception marked the first time he would be visiting Sanwo-Olu at the State House since he left office over four years ago as governor.
Acknowledging Ambode’s presence at the event, Tinubu said, “I’m glad to see Ambode. Thank you Akin!”
Former governor Babajide Fashola was also present at the event, making it a full list of the president’s predecessors as Lagos governor in attendance.
The event was the first of its kind when Tinubu will be meeting with Ambode and other successors together.
The reception was also the first public outing where the president, Ambode, and Fashola were seen together exchanging handshakes since 2019 when he was voted out of office.
Ambode was the governor of Lagos State between 2015 and 2019 but could not secure the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his second-term ambition.
He was said to have fallen apart with Tinubu and the leadership of the APC in Lagos while in office as governor, leading to the endorsement of Sanwo-Olu by the party leaders in the build-up to the 2019 elections when he was first elected.
