Nigeria got her independence with so much hopes and optimism of the good things the future held for our fecund nation. 60 years down the line elation and optimism that characterised the colourful independence and freedom from Colonial Masters have been replaced with gloom and despair as citizens found their dream of a great nation where they can call there own shattered by unscrupulous politicians who ran, and still run, the country like a private entity.
In far away north east Asia, there is another country, Singapore, who got independence almost at the same time as Nigeria. Even the projection then was that Nigeria, would leapfrog other Asian countries to become one of the world’s powerhouse. But this is not to be so as Nigerian leaders frittered away the goodwill and resources it was bestowed with.
Singapore on the other hand had a leader who knew exactly what it takes to run a country. The Inimitable Lee Quan Yew almost single-handedly pull Singapore from the backwaters of underdeveloped world to the front foot of a developed Enclave.
