EKO HOT BLOG reports that the spectacular engagement and Nikkahi rites popular with the Yoruba/Islamic culture metamorphosed into an extraordinary ceremony filled with pomp and pageantry as fireworks of different kinds rents the air.

The Chairman of Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, Engr. Shakir Ayinde Gafar, who was the officiating Imam, in his speech condemned the menace of indecent dressing which is an offshoot of a failed family unit.

The cleric also underscored the significance of marriage as a vital tool in nation-building.

“Apart from the improper dressing which has become trendy even amongst mothers, the point at which we’ve lost it is that of marriage.

“The foundations and origin of any family is the basis of any nation because it is the conglomeration of different entities,” he stated.

This, he said, may be referred to as states or local governments or areas constituted by units of groups of people known as families which are formed by the coming together of two different families through a young male and female.

The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board Chairman bemoaned that the entire nation and the world at large have been torn apart as a result of deficiencies and responsibilities that have enveloped the family unit.

“We don’t keep family values anymore. And unfortunately, the coming together of each family becomes a neighbourhood, a community, a town, a state, a nation and the world at large. If we don’t safeguard the family, the world can never be a better place,” he stated.

He further emphasised that the family begins from the friendship of two adorable hearts who decided to take it further to a matrimonial level as in the case of Dr Fatai Adeniyi Balogun and his bride, Toyyibah Adeniyi.

He mentioned that the three categories of people who are saddled with the responsibility of making the family a better place include; the bride and groom, the bridegroom’s groom’s parents, and the generality of mankind.

The bride according to him is created by the Almighty Allah from the image of the groom for him to recognise that she is his flesh and better half which must not be harmed as such is tantamount to harming himself.

He added that the Almighty Allah promised that the groom who cares for his bride would find solace, peace and tranquillity in her.

Speaking further, he advised that affection should supersede situations of inevitable grudges and misunderstandings, stating that it’s impossible to sever one’s fingers when it hurts. “Desist from promiscuity, indecent dressing and firmly abide by the teachings of the Holy Quran,” he added.

On his part, the chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Maruf Shittu, in his brief address cautioned the couples’ parents to desist from taking sides in times of conflict.

Another fundamental admonition he conveyed was for the couples to desist from being best of friends with anybody apart from themselves.

In the same vein, one of the special guests at the gathering, Dr Mrs Ogini, an academic staff of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) AOCOED Campus, admonished the newly wedded couple to put God first, let love thrive and also strive for a solid foundation in marriage.

The MC, ace Comedian, Actor and Lecturer, Mr Hafeez Oyetoro aka Simply Saka at the event.

While she stressed the primacy of intercourse, which she said breeds loyalty and trust, must not be shied away from, she also advised that the couples must be best of friends, entrench adequate communication irrespective of career demands and feed each other with mouthwatering delicacies.

The marriage ceremony which was graced by members of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, was anchored by a famous Nollywood comic actor and Lecturer at Lagos State University of Education formerly AOCOED, Otto, Ijanikin, Mr Hafeez Oyetoro is also known as Saka.

The event reached its climax when the newly wedded couple took the centre stage to display their dance skills as friends, families and well-wishers earlier accompanied the duo into the hall in an exquisite and resplendent procession.
