On December 4th and 5th, they protested peacefully, hoping to draw attention to their plight. But when the Nigerian Legion, an organization representing retirees, labeled their planned protest as “illegal,” frustration reached a tipping point.

“The Legion cannot continue to exploit and misrepresent us,” Chief Umar stated. “We will no longer be docile or voiceless. If they claim to represent us, let them prove it transparently.”

The veterans are not just calling for their dues but also demanding accountability from the Legion, which they accuse of mismanaging funds meant for their welfare. “We sacrificed for this nation,” Umar added, his voice cracking with conviction. “It’s unacceptable that we now have to fight for what is ours while others feast on our sweat.”

The planned protest, set for the Ministry of Finance, symbolizes a shift in their approach. While they insist on peace, they are resolute about achieving justice. “This is not just about money,” Umar explained. “It’s about dignity and respect for those who have given everything for this country.”
