The Federal and Lagos State Governments will go on with the concession of the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos to turn it into a viable asset for the country

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known shortly after a joint inspection of the National Stadium and the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, with the Minister of Sports,Mr. Sunday Dare.

The immediate past administration in the  State had signified interest to take over the management of the National Stadium which has fallen into disrepair due to years of negligence

Governor  Sanwo-Olu said Lagos is ready to work and manage the National Stadium through a transparent process.

Informing all the occupants of the National stadium that change is already here, Governor Sanwo-Olu gave an assurance that all the Stadia in Lagos would be good and ready to host FIFA and other International competitions come next year.

On his part, the Minister of Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare described the inspection as historical and next-level development in Sports saying that there could be no Sports development without the upgrade of the necessary infrastructure.

Mr. Dare  who gave an assurance that  the rehabilitation of the National Stadium Surulere would be accelerated stated that the process would signpost what would happen to other Stadia readiness country

The Minister of Sports stated that the current plan is to turn the National Stadium Surulere to the status of the London Webley Stadium.

The multi-purpose historical Onikan Stadium on Lagos Island which is currently under construction was also inspected.

Correspondent Omolara Omosanya reports that officials of relevant government agencies, including those from the Bureau of Public Enterprise and prominent sports personalities were also part of the inspection tour.
