EKO HOT BLOG reports that the death of the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Mrs Alaba Oluwaseun Lawson, came as a surprise to many Yoruba sons and daughters in Nigeria and, indeed, all over the world.

This news medium gathered that Chief Lawson died in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 72 years.

Her passing was announced via a statement released by the Executive Secretary of Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture, Abdulrahman Maku.

The late Iyalode Of Yorubaland was born on January 18, 1951. She was a business magnate, entrepreneur and academician. She was once Chairman of the Board of the Governing Council, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State.

Chief Lawson was also the president pro-tempore of the Forum of Female Traditional Rulers in Nigeria.

She became the President of the Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce in 1995 and later became the President of Ogun Council of Chambers of Commerce in year 2000 and headed it till 2002. And in 2009 she established a Microfinance Bank known as Abestone Microfinance Bank to boost SMES.

On May 25, 2017, Alaba became the first woman to be elected President of National Association Of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines And Agriculture (NACCIMA) following the expiration of the tenure of Dr. Benny Edem.

1. Chief Alaba Lawson was born on January 18, 1951.

2. She was born into the Jiboku-Taiwo family in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

3. She got her diploma in education at St. Nicholas Montessori Teachers’ Training College at Prince’s Gate, England, in 1973.

4. She started her teaching career in 1969 at Children House School, Ibara and taught at Queen’s Gate Montessori Nursery School and Mill Hill Nursery and Junior School before she later came back to Nigeria in 1977.

5. Lawson later established a trading and distributing firm known as Capricorn Stores Ltd, between 1968 and 1996.

6. She became the President of the Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce in 1995.

7. She later became the President of the Ogun Council of Chambers of Commerce from 2000 to 2002.

8. On May 25, 2017, Alaba became the first woman to be elected President of the National Association Of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines And Agriculture (NACCIMA).

9. Chief Lawson was also the President pro-tempore of the Forum of Female Traditional Rulers in Nigeria.
