Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has bemoaned the non challant attitude of some residents towards complying with the guidelines put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.
Giving an update on the disease on Saturday, Governor Sanwo-Olu decried that the situation was poor in the commercial transport sector.
“In terms of the non-compliance on the eased lockdown and the interstate travel ban, the compliance level is regrettably very low,” he stated.

The governor added, “Yellow buses especially, failed to comply with the capacity restrictions outlined in our framework. While compliance has improved in subsequent days, it is still not encouraging.”
According to him, many commercial motorcycle operators have openly and indiscriminately defied the suspension.
Speaking further, he said Trucks and other vehicles carrying items designated as essential, have also played major roles in flouting the guidelines, by conspiring to conceal and smuggle people in and out of the state.
The governor was worried about the reports on mask usage in public places, noting that they have also not been encouraging.
He stressed that for people to go out of their homes without masks or face coverings of any kind was unacceptable.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, therefore, informed that residents that the success of the gradual easing of the lockdown was dependent upon the compliance of the people.
Let the numbers we have seen this week stand as a warning to all of you the good people of Lagos State.
“What we are seeing is child’s play compared to what we could be seeing if we continue to be irresponsible,” the governor warned.
