In a statement issued on Friday, Nelson Chukwudi, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Fubara, labeled the reports as unverified and baseless. He urged the public to disregard the misinformation and rely on official communications from the Governor’s Office.

The statement read: “The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to claims circulating online that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has proposed a new minimum wage of ₦80,000 for civil servants in the state and local government areas.

“Ordinarily, we would not have addressed this fake news, but we must correct the false impression it could create among the public, particularly civil servants in the state.”
