EKO HOT BLOG reports that President-elect Bola Tinubu is set to return to Nigeria on Monday, ahead of his inauguration on May 29. Tinubu’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the news of his return via Twitter.
Tinubu has reportedly been on vacation in France since March 21. According to the APC presidential campaign council, the trip was intended for Tinubu to rest and plan his transition program after a grueling campaign and election season.
His plane is expected to land at the presidential wing of the Abuja airport, after which he will be escorted by a carnival-like motorcade to the Defence House.
Tinubu’s extended stay in France had raised concerns in some quarters about his health and ability to assume the presidency. However, the APC had dismissed these concerns, insisting that Tinubu was in good health and simply taking a much-needed break.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had dissolved its presidential campaign council, signaling the end of the campaign season and the beginning of the transition period.
Tinubu’s return to Nigeria is expected to kick-start a flurry of activities leading up to his inauguration, as the president-elect begins to put together his team and set out his agenda for the next four years. With the country facing a range of economic and security challenges, many Nigerians are looking to Tinubu to provide strong and decisive leadership that will help to tackle these issues head-on.
