The Only Ones Complaining Are The Politicians – Mike Ozekhome
  • Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, comes hard on critics of the CBN’s naira redesign policy.

  • According to the lawyer, it is only those who stand to lose a lot that have a reason to be worried, as it has little to do with the masses.

  • Ozehome name drops vote buyers and the elites as the key combatants of the naira redesign and not the everyday folks who barely have money on a regular basis to keep.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has expressed his views on the recent naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). In an interview with Channels TV’s “The 2023 Verdict,” Ozekhome stated that the policy has affected the political elites and their vote-buying allies more than the masses.

The CBN recently introduced the naira swap policy as part of its efforts to combat corruption and counterfeiting. The policy received a temporary setback when the Supreme Court ruled to stop the Federal Government from extending the deadline for the naira swap.

According to Ozekhome, the naira swap policy affects politicians and vote buyers more than ordinary citizens.

He explained that while voters usually register near their homes, politicians and vote buyers have access to cheap money and will be most affected by the policy.

Ozekhome also noted that banks, which are mostly owned by politicians, have been “captured by known non-state actors, by the elites.” He added that there are individuals who are now richer than Nigeria with its N21 trillion budget.

Ozekhome’s views highlight the impact of the naira redesign policy on the political class and the need for a more equitable distribution of wealth in Nigeria. It also sheds light on the need for the government to address the concerns of the masses and ensure that the implementation of its policies does not negatively impact their livelihoods.

The Naira redesign has been a subject that has forced a lot of voices to be raised in criticism towards the Central Bank of Nigeria and its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and judging from Mike Ozekhome’s stance, the CBN would gladly take a positive vote at this moment on their decision.
