EKO HOT BLOG reports that Investigative reporter Kemi Olunloyo has revealed the reason why actor Kunle Remi was snubbed for an AMVCA nomination despite delivering a standout performance in the Kunle Afolayan movie, Anikulapo.
According to Olunloyo, Remi was excluded from the nominations because of his alleged “disrespect” for a senior colleague in the industry.

Olunloyo, in a lengthy post on her Instagram page, stated that the snub was due to an interview Remi granted an online platform some weeks ago, in which he claimed that a popular figure tried to lure him into homosexuality. The journalist went on to reveal that the Anikulapo movie received 16 nominations, but Remi was not among the nominees.
Olunloyo said, “Shame that the same movie bagged 16 nominations and he didn’t get one. That’s the Nigerian movie industry for you.” She promised to name the senior colleague when she returns to YouTube after a six-month rebranding break.
Kunle Remi had played a lead role in Anikulapo, a movie that tells the story of the famous Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The film had garnered critical acclaim, with many praising Remi’s performance in particular.
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is an annual event that recognizes outstanding achievements in African film and television. The 2023 edition of the awards ceremony had received a record number of entries, with many industry insiders expecting Anikulapo to dominate the nominations.
However, the exclusion of Kunle Remi has caused controversy among fans and industry watchers, with many calling for transparency in the awards selection process. Some have also criticized the alleged victimization of Remi for speaking out against homosexuality.
