Political Actors: Olumide Oworu Speaks On Losing To Desmond Elliott

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Olumide Oworu, a Nollywood actor and Labour Party (LP) candidate for Surulere 1 Constituency, has broken his silence after losing the House of Assembly election to Desmond Elliot and the controversy surrounding his missing name from the ballot.

Oworu contested the just concluded election to unseat Elliot, his colleague and incumbent lawmaker. However, his name was missing from the final list of gubernatorial and state House of Assembly candidates obtained by Daily Trust.

Instead, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) listed 47-year-old Bode Adedayo as the Labour Party’s authentic candidate for the election.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Oworu said his participation in the election process was not for clout and blamed INEC for not including his name on the ballot.

He added that the electoral umpire failed to obey a court order issued on February 2 directing the commission to open its website for the Labour Party to submit the names of its candidates or accept the manual submission.

Oworu also stated that INEC failed to upload the names on the list sent by LP in October 2022. He believes the LP’s endeavour was to bring genuine change, and he was disappointed that INEC’s failure to list him on the ballot denied the people of Surulere the opportunity to vote for a candidate who was passionate about their development.

“I am grateful to everyone who supported me, and I promise to continue to advocate for good governance and development in Surulere,” Oworu said.
