In the past years, boxing, football and Table Tennis, have won laurels for Nigeria both at African and international levels. However, in recent times, apart from football and to an extent, basketball, other sports seems to have taken a back seat, especially boxing.

Nigeria has always been known to produce great talents in boxing in the past and even till now. In the past, Nigerians had great boxers like Bash Ali, Samuel Peter and in the present day, Nigeria has Anthony Joshua. The question now is, if Anthony Joshua retires from boxing today, who will be the next big boxer to come out from Nigeria?
Nigeria is blessed with a lot of natural talents on the streets. From Lagos to Abuja to Enugu, you find talented boxers on the streets of Lagos. What this means is that Nigeria, if they do the right thing, will never lack boxers.
The Nigerian Boxing federation has a lot to do this year to revive boxing in Nigeria. They can organize grassroots competitions to discover talents or even organize boxing clinics.
As football takes centre stage this early stage of the year, it won’t be out of place for the boxing body in Nigeria, to start combing the streets and communities in the country, in order to produce world boxing champions.
