Things Lagos Commuters Should Know As Buhari, Tinubu, Others Visit For APC Rally Today

  • The APC bigwigs, including President Muhammadu Buhari and presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, are coming to Lagos today.

  • The APC members are set to hold the final rally for the forthcoming presidential election.

Eko Hot Blog reports that commuters in Lagos have been advised on alternative roads as the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds a presidential rally on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, on Monday, there will be a Motorcade Rally from the Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MMA2) to the Teslim Balogun Stadium (TBS), Surulere, the venue of the rally.

The motorcade will take the following routes; Agege Motor Road (PWD) – Sogunle – Alasia – Ladipo – Bolade – Oshodi Underpass – Cappa – Challenge – Olorunsogo – Ojuwoye – Olosha – Idi – Oro – Moshalasi) – Ojuelegba – Barrack – Teslim Balogun Stadium (TBS), Surulere.

“Lagosians are advised to plan their journeys as the Motorcade Rally commences from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm from Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MMA II) to Teslim Balogun Stadium (TBS), Surulere via Agege Motor Road to Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue),” the commissioner said.

MOTORISTS THAT ARE APAPA-OSHODI BOUND SHOULD MAKE USE OF:

a. Airport Toll Plaza – International Airport Road – Toyota to connect their desired destinations:

Or

b. Bolade – Oyetayo Street (by Oshodi-Isolo Local Govt. Secretariat) – Ewenla/or Boladale and continue their journeys.

MOTORISTS FROM IKEJA ALONG INBOUND IKORODU ROAD SHOULD MAKE USE OF:

a. Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way – Maryland – Ikorodu road – to connect their desired destinations.

MOTORISTS FROM MUSHIN INBOUND IKORODU ROAD SHOULD MAKE USE OF;

a. Ilupeju bypass – Town Planning Way – Ikorodu road;

Or

b. Ilupeju bypass – Coker road – Palmgrove Estate/or Obanikoro/or Onipanu – Ikorodu road.

During the procession from MMA II to Stadium via Sogunle, Mushin on Agege Motor Road and Ojuelegba, traffic will be restricted and diverted to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way.

Motorists on this route are advised to make use of Ikorodu road or Apapa Oshodi Expressway as earlier mentioned.

Ø Traffic on Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue) inwards Lagos Island, Costain, Ijora, and Apapa would be diverted to the Main Carriageway.

Ø Motorists moving to Surulere axis should make use of Ojuelegba – Lawanson-Itire road – to connect different parts of Surulere.

Ø Traffic from Eko Bridge/Costain inwards Ojuelegba/Mushin/Ikorodu road on Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue) will be diverted at Alaka to Stadium Bridge on the Main Carriage Way.

Ø Costain – Iponri – Iponri Estate – Bode Thomas, and Costain – Abebe Village (Nigeria Breweries) – Eric Moore would be available for motorists heading to Surulere Areas.

In addition, vehicular traffic on Alhaji Masha Road – Adelabu- Shitta Roundabout – Akerele, Barracks to Stadium on the Service Lane as well as Alaka to Stadium on the Service Lane would be totally restricted for safety and security, as only human traffic and special purpose vehicles would be allowed.

Vehicles conveying party members and others with accredited stickers for the rally would be provided free parking space with access to the National Stadium only via Alaka.

Motorists coming from Ojuelegba/Mushin/Palmgrove on Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue) will access the National Stadium via U turn at Alaka, while those from Surulere will access the Stadium via Bode Thomas/Iponri/Costain to connect Alaka.

Oladeinde added that directional signs, other traffic management devices, traffic management and security personnel would be available to assist and guide motorists and pedestrians both on the dedicated route and alternative roads.

He, therefore, sought the support and cooperation of all road users, and apologise for “any inconvenience this may cause.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has urged Lagosians to bear with the inconveniences they will experience on Tuesday as a result of a high deployment of security agents.

Nevertheless, the command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police have devised measures to cushion the effects of traffic diversions.

“As President @MBuhari visits Lagos State, there will be major traffic diversions and a high deployment of security personnel in some areas of the state tomorrow,” Hundeyin posted on Twitter.

“Kindly bear with us and rest assured that we have put measures in place to cushion the effect of the diversions.”
