This Akin Abayomi, ‘Ko Ggbodo Ku’ ..

This coronavirus pandemic has claimed so many valuable lives across the world since it exploded early this year. In Nigeria, especially in Lagos, we seem to be losing count of its victims.
It has not been discriminatory in its choice; as it has mauled the low, high and the mighty in our society.
Sometime ago when the ravaging was severe and the incident commander in Lagos, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu appeared bursting in his seams with swashbuckling activities, my son expressed concern from his overseas base and urged the governor not to over-expose himself as every donor to the war on covid-19 who were more interested in photo-shoot with the governor than anything else.
To be sure, who will not covet the klieg-lights with the performing governor of the most dynamic and vibrant state in Nigeria? But my son’s worry was that these gifts in sundry forms could be donated in other ways than to get too close to the ‘war commander’ whose falling down to the pandemic could deal a lethal blow to the war effort.

The governor seemed to have yielded to the innocent plea but partially. He was too immersed in ensuring that the pain of the pandemic was lessened, that day in, day out, he was at the “war front” giving command to his foot soldiers – of course, with his deputy incident commander in tow!
Like the governor, his health commissioner, Professor Akin Abayomi is also of slim frame and that makes them nimble and fleet-footed. They were here and about, with people of diverse faith praying ceaselessly for their wellbeing. The governor’s other name is Aduragbemi meaning “prayers pay”; his sustenance therefore is of God.
This same God must help sustain our Gentle Prof who is currently being isolated at home, for catching the corona bug.
I have a classmate in my secondary school days at Ibadan called Jamiu Egbodoku from Ikorodu. We also had a former chief executive of the LSDPC known as Engineer Kogbodoku. We were so chummy in and out of school with the former and at work with the latter, that I dont need their permission to borrow their surname at this time: Professor Akin Abayomi must NOT die – KO-GBO-DO-KU !
Let us all raise a banner of prayers for him to survive the plague. Or, didn’t the Psalmist say many things are wrought by prayers than the whole wide world dreams of ?
