With his season over along with his African Nations Cup aspirations with Ivory Coast in June, Manchester United defender, Eric Bailly drew a few tears by saying the season hasn’t smiled upon him.
The Ivorian, who offered a decent showing in Man U’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, was forced off in the 71st minute.
Upon further examination, it was confirmed the defender damaged his medial knee ligament, meaning he will not only miss the Red Devils’ two remaining games but also a chance to feature for Cote d’Ivoire in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt later in the year.
The latest setback capped an unimpressive season for the 25-year-old who has hardly featured for the Old Trafford side due to injuries and loss of form.
Despite all, Bailly has vowed to return even stronger while appreciating everyone who has sent him a message of support.
“I would like to thank everyone for the messages of love and support I have received,” Bailly wrote in an Instagram post.
“It’s tough, but one must accept that some injuries are unavoidable.
“It’s true that this season hasn’t smiled down upon me very much, but I will return soon and with more strength next season, God willing.”
